Home From Home

A few years ago I installed an insect house but all I ever saw in it were spiders webs.
It has now rotted away and been replaced with a new one:

I fixed the new one in different place a couple of weeks ago. I was wondering whether it was in too much direct Sunlight but as I went to move it I saw it has its first resident already:

Yes, a 7 spot Ladybird.
Needless to say I left the house where it was.

  1. Nice one.
You've had more luck than I've had John.

    1. Keith: It was lucky it was near the front. Once they get right inside it's much more difficult to whether there is anything in there.

  2. That's very exciting... I've always wanted an insect house for our own garden - another project to plan for! Some lovely photos of Spring I see from your previous posts... saw the first Comma butterfly yesterday enjoying the sunshine... a great time of year!

    1. Miranda: There is always something to top up the Round Tuit pile. Haven't spotted a Comma yet, though I tend to see them much later in the year.

  3. Found a load of 7 spotters on a gorse bush in the sun yesterday, guessing they'd been sleeping in it and the sun brought them to the surface of the plant

  4. Super new insect house - and lovely to get a visit already :) We have a couple (on a South facing wall so they get plenty of sunshine) and they are used by leaf mining bees later in the year.

    1. RR: Mine is South facing too and wondered whether it would get too hot so I was pleased to read yours are used. I have another to put up and may try that in dappled shade as some recommend.
