Yesterday I moved the bird table camera and angled it a bit to get a better view of visitors.
A Male Chaffinch at 6.45 a.m.:
Starlings don't have a definite song. That is not to say they are silent, far from it. They never seem to shut up. Actually they are very good mimics and can copy the sounds of other birds and environmental noise like burglar alarms though they don't seem to do that very often these days.
Another thing they do can only be described as rapid beak clicking as can be seen in these video clips taken yesterday: (chirping Sparrows in the background)
They can also produce some quite low frequencies, which I failed to video.

ReplyDeleteThe first video doesn't seem to have the colour balance right. I know the blow out is beyond your control. It's a bit garish. I have a posh monitor, Spyder calibrated when I remember. The picture editors in Sheffield gave it to me for Christmas two years ago. They calibrate every day after wandering in, sorting a coffee, switching on, allowing an hours warm up, drawing the blinds, going for a piss, getting another coffee and settling down to work. No wonder editing is expensive.
Adrian: Part of the problem was the low angle very bright Sunlight. It's not really an outdoor camera and I think it gets overloaded in such situations. Things look more normal when the table is in shade.
DeleteThe other problem is trying to adjust the DVR colour controls and the Mac recording software. I'll just have to find a stuffed bird, at least it will stay in one place long enough ;)
Can you glue an IV filter to it.I've stopped using them but they do improve both clarity and colour on bad lenses.
Delete?? Adrian - UV or IR I guess you meant UV. I've changed the monitor today and been re-adjusting the Mac software. Pity that doesn't allow RGB tweaking. I have to make do with altering Hue and saturation.
DeletePS. Use an apple on the bird table. They are great for set up. I used one today on a three strobe shoot. Success rate on a hundred shots of people in a Cafe was 30%. For a numpty like me that was acceptable. I eventually edited down to three. One of the dozen models models didn't look their best in the other twenty five. I love using multiple strobes.
DeleteI meant UV John. I'm a Muppet. I don't put UV filters in front of posh lenses. They can help on old cheap lenses or cctv type cameras.
DeleteNever dared go down the IR road myself. May be one day. I'll think about colour popping the flowers tomorrow.
