Friday at the Flicks (The Early Rook, Bathing in the Rain, Frogs)

It's the early Rook which catches the left over mealworms:
(Silent video capture)

Once again a Wood Pigeon was making the most of a rainy day to have a wash and brush up. They often stand on the raised edge of the pond and use their heads to splash wather.

Some video clips of the Common Frogs which visited the pond a few days ago:
(It was a windy day so there is some noise on the soundtrack)

Have a great weekend observing the wildlife around you.

  1. Good Morning John, another damp day here so I guess you’ll have a pigeon at your pond again today. In wet days here they just hang around too. Sometimes they look like they have been swimming!

Interesting to see the rook feeding on small grains. I’ve only seen them brave my not rook friendly garden (too many shrubs and small trees) for larger pieces of food.

Have to say, I particularly enjoyed the frog video… great close-up detail. I loved the final bit with the colours in the background. Very nice indeed! Thanks, wishing you a great weeknd too :-D

  2. Good Morning Shirl. A good sunny start to the day here after yesterday's dull wet weather. The pigeons do seem to like sitting out in the rain.

I guess, no matter how big the beak, if you are hungry you will eat anything you can find.

It was fun videoing the frogs. The final colour was made by the reflection of an imitation chimney pot I use to hold a pot of Alpine plants.

Hope your rain clears up soon so you can get out and about. There is so much which needs doing in the garden.

  6. Hello Keith. Fascinating watching such a large beak pick up such small seeds.
